A 55-year-old woman died this Monday in an accident with the car she was driving on National Road (EN) 18 in the municipality of Beja, civil protection and GNR sources told Lusa.
A source at the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Office of Emergency and Civil Defense said the accident, which was issued a warning at 12:04 p.m., occurred on the EN18 section between Beja and Santa Vitoria in the same municipality.
A source from the GNR territorial command in Beja, who was contacted by Lusa, stated that the fatal victim was the driver and only passenger of the car.
The same source said that after the accident, the car crashed into a tree and caught fire, and the body of the victim was charred.
A total of 19 Beja, GNR and National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) firefighters participated in the rescue operations, supported by six vehicles, including an ambulance and resuscitation vehicle (VMER).
