Drone forced to suspend landing in Lisbon

Landings at the Humberto Delgado airport (Lisbon) were suspended on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:27 due to the detection of a drone in the areas of Alcantara and Campolide. Ten flights were diverted to Faro and Porto airports.

“The drone threatened the safety of air navigation,” a source from Navegação Aérea de Portugal (NAV) said, adding that the drone was “in the approach area from the south to the runway, presenting an obstacle, after information from three pilots to the air traffic controller.

The PSP in Lisbon received an alert and mobilized resources for the locals, but no one could be identified. The incident affected only those arriving, so flights continued to operate. The strength of the wind prevented, as an option, landing from north to south.
