PSP identifies young man who threatened colleagues with attack on school in Leiria

Police in Leiria have identified a young woman who threatened her colleagues with a possible attack this Thursday morning at a school in the municipality of Leiria, the police told the Lusa news agency.

PSP Leiria District Chief José Figueira explained that the school had alerted police to social media posts and threats from the minor, claiming he would attack with a weapon.

“We are not discounting any news and are following the news on social media about a possible attack on schools to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Columbine massacre in the United States,” said José Figueira.

The PSP identified the young suspect and ransacked her home, where she lives with her mother.

“The walls of her room are adorned with weapons designed by herself. A plastic (toy) pistol and a revolver box were studied, ”he said, explaining that the young woman would have mental disorders and that she was under observation in child psychiatry. .

The commander stressed that the PSP sent staff to schools this Thursday to ensure peace and security in educational institutions, despite the fact that it excludes the scenario of an attack.

According to some guardians, several students did not go to school.

The PSP also identified the young man after threats appeared on social media regarding a possible invasion of a school in the municipality of Odivelas, Lisbon district.

There have been several reports on social media of possible attacks on schools in the wake of the Columbine massacre in the US, which is 24 years old today.

On Thursday morning, a police statement said they were monitoring the situation and monitoring the functioning of educational institutions and the school population.

In this note, the police said that they also received information about these threats on social networks from several citizens who wanted to confirm that the authorities were aware of this.

The PSP urged that “an atmosphere of calm be maintained and that normal school activities be guaranteed.”

Threats of possible attacks on schools arise in connection with the 24th anniversary of the massacre in Columbine, in the United States. This attack took place on April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado, when two students broke into Columbine High School and killed 12 students and a teacher before committing suicide.
