Mayor of Lisbon (CML) Carlos Moedas will be received by Pope Francis this Saturday in Rome, Italy. The meeting will focus on the 100 days left until World Youth Day (WYD), a religious event that takes place in Lisbon from 1 to 6 August.
“We are already starting the countdown to a unique event that will mark Lisbon and the country. To be with the Holy Father and to be able to convey all the enthusiasm with which the city will welcome with open arms and brotherly the thousands of young people who will be in the city is exciting,” said Carlos Moedas, quoted in the CML statement.
An audience between the head of the municipality of Lisbon and the head of the Catholic Church has been studied for several months. The meeting, which has now been confirmed, is scheduled for 10:00 local time (9:00 in Portugal).
“We are proud to be able to be in the Vatican and share a message of great confidence that we are well prepared and convinced that WYD in our city will be a huge success. Lisbon will become a world stage. during these days. Lisbon will not let you down,” the mayor of Lisbon stressed.
During the week of World Youth Day, more than a million people are expected in the capital.
