The head of European diplomacy on Monday urged the Brazilian president to visit Ukraine to see Russia’s “aggression” with his own eyes, in response to recent criticism by Lula da Silva.
“Recently, some ideas about peace have come from China and also from Brazil. In order to have a credible peace effort, it is necessary to talk to Kiev and go there, to see the aggression through their eyes, through the eyes of those who are being persecuted. bombed,” Josep Borrell said at a press conference following a meeting of European Union (EU) foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
During a visit to Beijing this month, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the position of the United States of America and the EU regarding the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine.
Lula da Silva claimed that Washington and the 27 were fueling the conflict and later refused to choose a side as he considered it part of the third path (not to be on the side of Ukraine or the Kremlin) which is only interested in peace.
“We cannot accept this benevolent approach. We cannot equate an aggressor with an aggressor,” said the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs.
Josep Borrell added that “it’s not that Russia and Ukraine don’t want to stop,” it’s Moscow that “wants to continue the invasion.”
“I want to remember the terrible situation in the country for all the people who have come to ask for peace. I also want peace. But where were these requests when Russia was pulling troops to the border [com a Ucrânia]? We all want peace, and above all the Ukrainians.”
“Until then,” he warned, “the EU will “continue to support the defense of Ukraine.”
