Today, in some parts of the country, the temperature can reach 37 degrees Celsius.

Hot weather returned to the Portuguese mainland this Thursday, with maximum temperatures reaching over 35 degrees in parts of the country.

At stake is a mass of hot air originating in North Africa and “carried by the circulation of an anticyclone located near the Iberian Peninsula,” the Portuguese Sea and Atmospheric Institute said in a statement.

This Thursday, the highest maximum temperatures are expected in the hinterland of the Southern Region, Ribatejo and Beira Baixa. The temperature will vary from 33 to 35°C and can reach up to 37°C.

In some places of the inner regions of the North and the Center, the maximum temperatures will fluctuate within 30-33°C. Temperatures between 25 and 30°C will be recorded in the rest of the country on the same day. The coastal strip north of Cape Raso remains unrelated to values recorded in other regions and temperatures in this area will range from 20 to 25°C.

In the coming Friday and Saturday, a decrease in maximum temperature is expected throughout the territory, which will be felt more on the northern and central coast. In many places in the southern region, values from 30 to 33 ° C will remain.

Due to high temperatures, also associated with low relative humidity values, a significant increase in the Rural Fire Danger is expected, “which should be in the “Maximum” and “Very High” classes practically throughout the Northern and Central Interior and in the interior in the Algarve ” starting this Thursday, the IPMA said in a statement.
