This Thursday, the PS accused the PSD of taking the same stance as the far right in the face of the Brazilian president’s visit, reacting to statements from Montenegro that the socialists want to “tie themselves to the far right”, as they have already done. done “with the extreme left”.
SDP leader “Luis Montenegro clearly followed the extreme right in the context of this visit by a foreign head of state. [o brasileiro Lula da Silva]”, said Pedro Marquez, member of the PS national secretariat.
Admitting that he “with disappointment” accepted the accusations of the leader of the Social Democrats, since “Luis Montenegro continues to say that he is an alternative to governing the country, but does not make any proposals”, the socialist criticized the position of the leader of the PSD in relation to the President of Brazil.
“Luis Montenegro, even in spite of his own parliamentary bench, refuses to support the President of the Assembly of the Republic when he scolds the extreme right, Chega, for disrespect for our democratic institutions and disrespect for the head of state, officially invited by the President of the Republic to be in Portugal,” he accused.
In addition, added Pedro Marquez, leader of the SDP, “does not support the President of the Assembly of the Republic, he misses the official dinner that the President of the Republic offered to this foreign head of state, and therefore the ambiguity continues towards the extreme right.”
Referring to the fact that this is how he sees the leadership of the PSD, Pedro Marquez assured that the script causes him “great concern”.
On Wednesday, the SDP leader criticized the April 25 speech by Parliament Speaker Augusto Santos Silva and accused the PS of wanting to “attach itself to the far right” as it had done “from the far left” in the past.
In the opening remarks of the SDP National Council, Luis Montenegro accused the PS of being the only party in Portugal “having the conditions to be a government” that “goes hand in hand with extremism”, be it left or right. as “yielding” and ensuring that the SDP would never rule either.
“Yesterday [na terça-feira, 25 de Abril]The Chairman of the Assembly of the Republic, in a very curious speech, because it was monothematic, spoke about the time of politics: let’s be here, that we cling to power until 2026 and that it is necessary to respect the will of the people, ”he criticized.
Montenegro, who attended the April 25 official meeting in the front row, said he “didn’t even want to believe” what he heard from Santos Silva, recalling what happened in 2015.
“How is it possible that the people who lost the elections in 2015, who did not have the will of the people to govern and joined the extreme left (…) how is it possible that these people say that they respect the will of the people and want to shoot stones at the house SDP,” he said, accusing the speaker of parliament of never “taking off the shirt of a PS militant.”
The SDP leader accused the PS of “now that the extreme left is no longer at hand to sow”, “if it wants to gain a foothold on the extreme right”.
