An accident with a truck inside the Marquis Tunnel resulted in a complete halt to traffic in the direction of Ameiras-Marquis de Pombal on Thursday morning.
According to PSP sources, the cargo hit the top of the tunnel roof, becoming stuck and blowing the cargo along the way due to the hard impact.
The accident occurred at 11:50 am, the city police and the sapper regiment were brought to the scene.
The accident has resulted in a complete halt to traffic in the direction of Cascais-Lisbon and it is expected that the resumption of traffic may take some time, according to the municipal police.
A municipal police source said that “the road in the direction of Cascais-Lisbon has been completely cut off” and that the restoration of traffic “will still take some time.”
Around 3:30 p.m., a source in the Lisbon city council added that there had been an accident with a heavy vehicle at the headquarters of the firefighters’ regiment “and the structure had fallen onto another vehicle”, however, this had not resulted in any injuries.
According to the same source, “the insurance company’s heavy vehicle is expected to carry the load” and the Sapadores Fire Regiment “will start cutting the fallen structure.”
The same source added that there were no reports of a fuel spill at the scene.
