The region of the municipality of Castro Verde in Alentejo recorded the highest temperature on the Portuguese mainland this Thursday. The absolute April record, set in Pignan in 1945, was barely beaten.
At 14:00 at Neves Corvo in Castro Verde, the temperature reached 35.9ºC, according to automatic stations of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere. It was the highest temperature recorded on the Portuguese mainland, with values well above normal for April. The list of places where the heat has been felt includes Barrosinha, Alcácer do Sal with 35.6 ºC and Mora with 35.1 ºC, both values were also recorded at 14:00.
The highest temperature record in April was recorded in Pignana in 1945, when it was 36ºC, so today’s 35.9ºC in Neves Corvo was not enough to beat this maximum.
