Office Assistant to Infrastructure Minister Federico Pinheiro was fired on Wednesday for “behavior inconsistent with duties and responsibilities” inherent in the exercise of his functions, a Lusa official confirmed on Friday.
“On April 26, 2023, the Cabinet Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure, Frederico Pinheiro, was rehabilitated,” João Galamba’s cabinet replied to Luce.
According to the same reply, “as described in the order to be published in the Diário da República, the deputy in question has displayed ‘conduct inconsistent with the duties and responsibilities inherent in the exercise of his functions in a ministerial post'”.
Frederico Pinheiro was targeted in an exchange of information released to the media on Thursday about the controversy at TAP.
The ministry adds that, according to the law, “members of ministerial cabinets are ‘appointed freely and dismissed by order of a member of the government’, and these decisions are later published in the Diário da República.”
Expresso reported this Friday that “Federico Pinheiro, the assistant who coordinated PS’s “secret meeting with the former CEO [presidente executiva] from TAP, was rehabilitated by Galamba.”
The chairman of the TAP commission of inquiry on Thursday considered that the disclosure of confidential information to the media is an “attack on the heart of democracy” that deserves exemplary punishment from the perpetrators.
Seguro Sánchez mentioned the spread of WhatsApp and email messages involving the government of SIC and CNN Portugal, information that also became available that morning in the security room of the commission of inquiry.
Speaking to reporters in the Assembly of the Republic, also on Thursday, BE MP Mariana Mortagua mentioned that there are “several exchanges of ’emails’ and documents” in the documents sent by the government to the TAP commission of inquiry, which show that the government has resorted to state legal assistance to justify the dismissal of the TAP executive president and “chairman”.
The BE MP emphasized that there is also information about a meeting between the PS, government advisers and then-TAP executive president Christine Urmier-Widener on the eve of her parliamentary hearings.
According to Mariana Mortagua, several elements of the government have sent information “showing all the steps in this process”, including a WhatsApp message in which Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Joao Galamba informs him that Urmier-Widener has asked to attend this meeting. .
“We have no evidence of the CEO’s request,” he stressed.
