Starting this Monday, workers can claim leave electronically to justify three days of sick leave, a new mechanism that also allows the employer to verify the validity of this claim.
According to the Department of Health Joint Services (SPMS), which developed the system, any worker aged 16 or over can now request an ADD.
“The worker can request an ADD on the SNS 24 portal personal account and on the SNS 24 app. If digital transmission is not possible, the employee can also request an ADD via the SNS 24 line (808242424),” SPMS told Lusa.
According to the same source, the employee informs the employer about his absence due to illness by telling him the access code that he received in an SMS message or by e-mail after completing the additional payment.
“Later, if the employer wishes to confirm the validity of the PDD, he will be able to access the SNS 24 portal and, by filling in the relevant data, confirm that it is valid,” the GPMS said.
This self-declaration allows the absence to be justified, similar to what happens with a sick leave issued by a doctor in the first three days of illness without compensation from the employer.
The SPMS estimates that each year there are 600,000 appointments just for sick leave for up to three days without Social Security financial support for the citizen.
In early April, Health Minister Manuel Pizarro stressed that the Decent Work Agenda measure was intended to “make people’s lives easier,” saying that “there is no point when people are sick for a short time, you still have to queue at the clinic for a certificate.” “
