Marcelo disagrees with Costa on ‘political reading’ of not accepting Galamba’s resignation

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, said that he did not agree with the decision of António Costa, who did not accept the resignation of Joao Galamba.

“The President of the Republic, who cannot justify a member of the government without a proposal from the Prime Minister, does not agree with the position of the latter regarding the political interpretation of the facts and the resulting perception on the part of the Portuguese regarding the prestige of the institutions that govern them,” reads a note published on the website of the Presidium of the Republic.

“I understand that any failure is not related to him personally. This unfortunate incident, unfortunate in every sense, is associated exclusively and exclusively with those who, when fired, acted violently against other people, ”says António Costa about Joao Galamba’s speech on the dismissal of the former adjutant.

Joao Galamba submitted his resignation on Tuesday, but António Costa refused the minister’s resignation.

Asked by journalists if he felt pressured by the dismissal of Joao Galamba, António Costa said he did not feel pressure and added that “whoever is the prime minister, he cannot go with the flow.” I think it would be a violation of my conscience. and dances of populism [caso aceitasse a demissão]” says Antonio Costa.
