Mozambican PR man at the inauguration of the elected president of Kenya

Mozambique’s head of state, Filipe Nyusi, began a working visit to Kenya this Monday to attend the inauguration ceremony for President-elect William Ruto, the Maputo administration said in a statement.

“The visit of the Mozambican head of state is a response to an invitation from his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta, to attend the inauguration ceremony of the elected President of Kenya,” Mozambique’s administration said in a statement.

In addition to participating in William Ruto’s inauguration ceremony in Nairobi, Philip Nyusi will strive to “deepen the bonds of brotherhood, friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two peoples and countries,” the statement said.

The head of the Mozambican state is accompanied on his two-day visit to Kenya by Minister of Economy and Finance Max Tonela and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Manuel José Gonçalves.

Kenya’s outgoing president-elect and vice-president William Ruto will be sworn in as the new head of state on Tuesday after the country’s Supreme Court upheld his election victory last week.

Ruto will become the fifth President of Kenya since independence from the United Kingdom in 1963 and will replace Kenyatta, who is serving his second and final term allowed by the Constitution.

The Supreme Court’s decision comes after weeks of uncertainty after opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who came second in the Aug. 9 presidential election, called the election results illegal.

However, the country’s highest court rejected their claims.
