The National Food Bank’s (BA) Hunger Campaign last weekend raised over 1,719 tons of food with 40,000 volunteers.
The food collection campaign took place in 2,000 retail spaces in 21 regions of the country, the Institute of Social Solidarity reported.
“The amount of food donated once again shows the solidarity of the Portuguese, who, despite the inflationary context and the difficulties faced by many families, supported the proposal,” BA said in a statement.
“Our word is gratitude to all those who accepted the invitation of the Food Bank of their region and donated time as volunteers or food by sharing what they bought for their homes, for their tables,” the President of the Portuguese Federation responded. food banks against hunger, Isabelle Jonet, cited in a note sent to the media.
“Therefore, this real social network has been updated in solidarity and solidarity, despite the situation that affects so many families,” he stressed.
The collected food will be distributed starting this week to 2,600 social solidarity institutions, which the BA says will deliver “about 400,000 people with proven food shortages in the form of baskets or ready meals.”
In addition to this face-to-face campaign, it will also be possible until May 14 to contribute with vouchers available in supermarkets or through the electronic platform available at www.alimentestaideia.pt.
Last year, 21 active Food Banks against hunger distributed a total of 28.9 thousand tons of food for a total amount of more than 44.2 million euros.
