The 80th Golden Globes is considered a pivotal issue for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which runs the show.

The organization hopes that the list of star nominees will help it to return. This time around, studios may be tempted to support the recognition of their films in hopes of boosting the box office in an under-performing year.
