Omid Scobie feared he would be sued for libel if his new book placed the royals at the center of a bitter racism scandal. may reveal.
Copies of the Dutch edition of Scobie’s Endgame have been taken off shelves after images of two royals wondering what skin color baby Archie will be.
Dutch publisher Xander said it “had to temporarily withdraw the title” due to “translation errors”, although copies are reportedly still available for purchase in the Netherlands.
Scobie insists he did not name the family members who allegedly made explosive comments about Prince Harry and Meghan’s unborn child in the Dutch outlet or any other version he produced.
In an interview before the book’s publication, the author said he feared legal action if he identified the alleged source of the comments, which Harry and Meghan first made during the Oprah interview.
In “Endgame,” Scobie says the names were revealed in private letters exchanged between Charles and Meghan after the Oprah interview.
“Books are held to a much higher legal standard than magazines or newspapers,” Scobie said. “To put something in a book, you really have to be able to show and tell it.”
“The fact is that I do not have these letters and therefore I cannot name the names contained in them. I will not be able to produce these letters if anyone asks or challenges me about them.”
Scobie added: “The names are written in letters. And I think there are a lot of people who know about it. I don’t think it’s a big secret at the moment.
“It’s not my place to say their names, but I was surprised to find out that there were two people there (thinking about Archie). It was interesting to hear the details of Meghan and Charles’ subsequent conversation.”

Anke Ruhlen, director of Xander, explains that the revised edition of the book will hit shelves on Friday. The publisher was still figuring out how the royal names were included in the original version.
Prince Harry and Meghan never named the person or people who allegedly questioned Archie’s skin color. Meghan said it would “cause her great harm.”
Scobie said he was curious why the couple did not expand on the allegations following the correspondence between Charles and Meghan. In her letter, she is believed to have spoken about her experiences of “unconscious racial bias” in her family.
“You may disagree, but Charles was very shocked to hear Meghan say that,” Scobie said. “There was a dialogue, and then they agreed to postpone this matter.”
Scobie, Buckingham Palace and British Endgame publisher HarperCollins have been approached for comment.
