Who were the Boston Marathon Bombers? What happened to the Tsarnaev brothers after the 2013 explosion

American Hunt: Explosion at the Boston Marathon is a new three-part Netflix documentary series about the devastating events of that day in 2013.

The film, which includes archival footage, reenactments and exclusive interviews, aims to “shine new light on the tragedy … that has caused panic in the city.”

What happened during the Boston Marathon bombing?

On April 15, 2013, two pressure cooker pipe bombs exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

The bombs exploded at 2:49 pm, 14 seconds apart and 190 meters apart.

Three people died, hundreds were injured, including 17 lost limbs.

On April 18, the FBI released footage of two suspects who were later identified as brothers: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, then 19, and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26. Both were Kyrgyz-American citizens of Chechen origin.

After their identification, the brothers rioted. At 10:48 p.m., they killed 27-year-old MIT police officer Sean Collier.

Then, at 23:00, they abducted the man in his car, but at 00:15 on April 19, the man fled.

At 00:45, the brothers exchanged fire with police in nearby Watertown, seriously injuring two officers (one of whom, Dennis Simmonds, died a year later).

Tamerlane, 26, was shot and hit several times by his brother Dzhokhar when he fled in a stolen car. Tamerlane soon died.

While Dzhokhar was at large, residents of Watertown and the surrounding area were asked to stay at home.

That night, around 6:00 pm, Dzhokhar was spotted by a Watertown resident who found him hiding in a boat in his backyard.

Dzhokhar was wounded by the police and taken into custody.

Who died in the Boston Marathon bombing?

  • Krystle Campbell, 29, Arlington, Massachusetts
  • Martin Richard, age 8, from Dorchester, Massachusetts.
  • Lingzi Lu, 23, PhD student from China

More than 260 people were injured in the explosions.

Here are the details of the attack.

Movie Strongerstarring Jake Gyllenhaal, based on the memoir of the same name by Jeff Bauman and Bret Witter.

Mr Bauman was at the finish line when the bomb went off. He had to amputate both legs above the knee.

What happened to Johar?

He was sentenced to death, but that sentence was overturned by the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

On March 22, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed that decision.

In October 2021, the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty and overturned the decision of the First Circuit Court.

According to Brad Witter, writes in hurry, Johar is stuck at ADX Florence in Colorado. Meanwhile, the convicted murderer continues his efforts to get his death sentence overturned.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev came to the US with his parents in 2002, and Tamerlan joined them a year later.

The Muslim family lived in Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Republic of Dagestan.

Tamerlan, an aspiring boxer, has shown signs of Islamic radicalization since 2009. After the explosion, his aunt said that he had recently become a devout Muslim.

It turns out that the FBI investigated Tamerlane in 2011 at the request of the Russian government, but found no evidence of terrorist activity.

In 2012, he spent six months in Dagestan. Upon his return, he created a YouTube channel with links to extremist videos.

FBI investigators said Dzhokhar and Tamerlan were motivated by extremist beliefs but “are not associated with any known terrorist group.”
