Infrastructure minister says Federico Pinheiro ‘copied documents at the wrong time’

The minister, who has always been thoughtful but described himself as a “choleric”, responded this Thursday to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on TAP. João Galamba “categorically” denied threatening his former deputy Frederic Pinheiro, but claimed that “he threatened him”. “I never lied to the country,” was the first guarantee left by Galamba, who repeated that he fired his assistant over the phone “because Frederico Pinheiro lied to his colleagues and lied to me.”

But he went further, casting suspicion on his former assistant: “There was information that Federico Pinheiro went to the ministry at the wrong time to make copies of documents, it is not clear why.” Regarding the contents of the computer that Frederico Pinheiro went to pick up from the ministry after being fired over the phone, Galamba raised another question: “Why is the first thing Frederico Pinheiro does when he hears that he is being fired is to go to the ministry to have the computer repaired? What the hell does this computer have to do what it does? Fortunately, the joint venture has a computer and can analyze what’s inside.”

The minister reiterated that “the acquittal by telephone and verbally is fully valid” and that he did so as soon as he landed in Portugal from Singapore. The minister admitted that he did not remember if he had spoken to the justice minister about SIS or SIRP when he reported attacks on cabinet ministers and the theft of a computer by a former MP. Galamba admitted for the first time that he was in the ministry on the very day that the facts that led to the intervention of the PSP and “secrets” took place.

Galamba also denied that he was the one who sent former TAP CEO Christine Urmier-Widener to attend a meeting with PS deputies preparing for a trip to the Economic Commission and reiterated that his former deputy withheld the notes he took of this meeting until the last moment.

Monetary reintegration in TAP
CM found that more than a dozen crew members and on-board personnel who were laid off by TAP in 2022 may be one step away from reinstatement in the company. The cancellation of this layoff is being discussed by workers’ lawyers and by the airline itself.

And

The salary of Luis Rodriguez is 420 thousand euros per year without bonuses. The previous CEO received 530 thousand.

Minister confirms
Galamba confirmed that the salary of the new TAP CEO is 530,000 euros, excluding bonuses. And he admitted that the opinion of the salary committee was negative.
