This Sunday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed a yellow warning in the districts of Évora, Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Beja and Portalegre due to the forecast of rain, thunderstorms and wind.
Notices are valid from 12:00 to 21:00 this Sunday and the same period on Monday.
IPMA predicts “showers, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind, which may be in the form of hail” in six areas.
In the current meteorological warning system, yellow is the least severe and refers to “a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation”.
Risk warnings also include orange and red (the most severe), while green indicates that there is no dangerous meteorological situation.
In the general forecast for this Sunday, IPMA predicts “rain showers, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong wind gusts in the Central and Southern regions, more likely in the Southern region.”
In the highlands in the north and in the center, there can be strong winds at times.
In the northern region, IPMA expects generally very cloudy skies with open skies until the end of the morning.
IPMA also expects “a slight decrease in maximum temperature in the southern region and a slight increase in the northern and central regions” with a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius (ºC) in Braga and a minimum of six degrees in Guarda.
In the Azores, a period of very cloudy skies with clearings is predicted, light rain is possible, and temperatures range from 23 ºC to 15 ºC.
Madeira should have periods of very cloudy skies and showers today, more likely on the northern slopes and highlands, with temperatures between 23 ºC and 17 ºC.
