Parliament approves state budget for 2023

The state budget for 2023 was approved this Friday by the Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon. PS voted yes, while PAN and Livre abstained. The SDP, Chega, the Liberal Initiative, the Portuguese Communist Party and the Left Bloc voted against OE2023.

Livre’s sole deputy, Ruy Tavares, abstained from the final global vote. Leader Protects a budget strategy in which the social and environmental emergency is considered as a priority, and the proposed state budget for the next year does not meet these requirements. Rui Tavares calls for the restoration of “part of the spirit of the device.”

PAN also abstained in the final global vote.

The left bloc voted against the state budget. According to the parliamentary leader of the Block de Esquerdes, Pedro Filipe Soares, “it is not surprising that the absolute majority of the PS will approve the OE”, to which he adds: “There is a little bit of everything in the budget, but he will leave everything as it is.” Pedro Filipe Soares argues that the poor will become even richer, and the super-rich will become even richer.” “Whoever thinks the right way, rules the right way.” The leader of the parliament, BE, accused the government of “closing” the state budget “at the bosses’ table” and “remaining deaf to troubles families”, classifying the desire for dialogue as “just action”.

The Communist MP also revealed during the argument that the PKP was also going to vote against the OE. This is the first vote since the departure of Jeronimo de Souza. According to the MP, “PS is more into propaganda than problem solving”, to which she adds that the government is not ready to do what is needed. Politics shows that “golden visas” are getting higher and higher, contrary to what António Costa said a few weeks ago.

João Cotrim de Figueiredo, general secretary of the Liberal Initiative, also voted for “another budget with nothing structurally changed”. According to the IL leader, Portugal is becoming a mediocre country that cannot cope with the challenges of the future. João Cotrim accuses the government of creating a country that does not respect the rights to freedom, and this is reflected in the pandemic, in which the population easily renounced freedom in exchange for “a crumb of security.” The IL leader shows that Romania outperforms Portugal in terms of GDP per capita.

Andre Ventura, Chega’s leader, said that this government is “the most fragile of all the governments of António Costa, affected and demobilized due to cases of suspicion against the government”, and added that 2023 will be the year of the fall of the government. Antonio Costa.

PSD leader Joaquim Miranda Sarmento believes that this budget is only the budget of the PS, and nothing more. “This is a government without political leadership and marked by scandals, each new case is worse than the last, and all of them involve the direct power of the prime minister.” Joaquim Sarmento argues that there is a clear loss of authority and that OE2023 is another budget with no structural changes. “The country should not accept the fact that it is poor. […] Portugal must have hope and faith, and that is why the SDP exists,” says the leader of the introverted, which rejected 97% of the opposition’s proposals, and considered that, despite the fact that the government has only eight months, “eight seems years have passed.”
