This Thursday, MPs unanimously approved a proposal for a free amendment to the state budget for 2023 (OE2023) to conduct a study on violence against people with disabilities.
According to the proposal approved at the plenary session of the Assembly of the Republic, as part of the discussion of the State Budget, “in 2023 the Government will make the necessary efforts” to “regularly collect and process statistics on violence against people with disabilities in Portugal”.
The Livre Initiative also states that “special budgetary allocations should be made for a national study of violence against girls and women with disabilities, namely the reality of forced sterilization.”
MPs also returned to voting on the PS proposal, which would allow for a new renewal of pensions if inflation is higher than expected.
The proposal was approved again only with a positive vote from the PS, a vote against Chega, and abstentions from the rest of the parties.
“The Government, by its decree, renews pensions and other benefits in excess of the percentages provided for in paragraph 1 of article 5 of Law no. 19/2022 of 21 October. [Regime transitório de atualização das pensões] depending on the dynamics of the consumer price index and GDP growth,” the text of the proposal provides.
The government decided this year to allocate to retirees the equivalent of half of the pension paid in October and an update from January 2023 that ranges from 4.43% to 3.53% depending on the cost of the reform.
These percentages, however, are lower than those that would have been obtained through the application of the Pension Adjustment Act.
