This Wednesday, Chega demanded the resignation of ministers Fernando Medina and Duarte Cordeiro after it became known about the alleged exchange of favors between PS and PSD in preparing lists for the 2017 municipal elections.
“These are two ministers who have a deadline. We will calmly wait for what the Prime Minister will say this Wednesday during this parliamentary debate, but the great truth is that neither Fernando Medina nor Duarte Cordeiro can remain in government at this time,” said parliamentary leader Chega.
Pedro Pinto thought it was “a very serious matter” and felt that the finance minister and former mayor of Lisbon was “already weakened” by his name appearing in “several cases”.
Parliamentary leader Chegi demanded an explanation from the rulers as well as the SDP, pointing out that if the Social Democrats want to “talk about corruption” they should “start at home”.
Pedro Pinto also denied André Ventura’s involvement in this dispute, stating that “the President of Chega is never involved in this investigation.”
“There is a message that you received that appeared yesterday in the report, but at no time did either the public ministry or the SP say anything,” he added.
As early as Tuesday evening, in a Twitter post, Chega President Andre Ventura defended that finance and environment ministers “cannot remain in government”, calling on the President of the Republic to “fire the government”, arguing that “institutions are in a state of accelerated and unacceptable degradation.”
In the morning, the parliamentary leader of the “Liberal Initiative” also commented on the report published on Tuesday evening, considering that it is necessary to demand “greater demand from voters, politicians, the press.”
“During the vote, the Portuguese cannot continue to complain after almost 50 years of democracy that everything is wrong, and then you don’t change actors, and when you don’t change actors, you don’t change attitudes, no, if politics change, decisions don’t change ”, he noted, arguing that “in fact, we are not getting out of the same thing, we are not getting out of a depressive state, we are not getting out of stagnation, which is not only social and economic, but also political stagnation.”
Asked whether ministers Fernando Medina and Duarte Cordeiro should give explanations, Rodrigo Saraiva said that “any politician should always be available to give explanations either to the press when questions arise, or to political forums, or later to judicial forums when investigations are taking place and when they perform their procedures.”
A TVI/CNN report denounces an alleged exchange of favors between PS and PSD in preparing lists for the 2017 municipal elections to ensure that some parishes in Lisbon remain.
According to TVI/CNN, citing an investigation by the State Ministry and the Judicial Police, Medina is a suspect in cases that date back to his time as mayor of Lisbon, including the Tutti Frutti case. At stake are, among other things, alleged crimes of corruption, abuse of power and misuse of office.
The news also speaks of dozens of wiretaps and hundreds of emails involving not only the current finance minister, but also environment minister Duarte Cordeiro, who at the time was second in the Medina at the Lisbon Chamber.
The investigation includes several e-mails of “criminal significance” according to the SP inspector in the trial report Tutti Frutti, which highlights the existence of “political agreements between Sergio Azevedo (of the PSD), Duarte Cordeiro and Fernando Medina (of the PS). )” for awarding benefits and placing people in “strategic positions” in the 2017 municipal elections.
Also mentioned is the “issuing of false invoices and agreements with PS officials to secure public contracts with companies”, as well as the “wedge” requested by Luis Filipe Vieira, President of Benfica until 2021, so that one of his sons’ properties will be exempt from IMI.
Two ministers denied having been heard by the Ministry of Public Affairs in connection with these allegations.
