Brussels warns of lack of transparency in Portuguese tax authorities

The European Commission (EC) considers the Portuguese tax system “complicated and not very transparent” and warns of a rise in tax debt “significantly above the European Union average”, according to the European Semester Spring Pack published this year. Wednesday.

In a guidance document on member states’ budget plans, Brussels said that Portugal would “benefit” from a continued assessment of the “economic efficiency” of the tax system, despite recognizing that the country had included measures in “Recovery and Resilience”. Plan to combat tax evasion.

Technicians in Brussels are sounding the alarm about house prices, which “recorded strong gains” due to “the impact of heightened financial constraints and an uncertain external environment.”

The EC also left a warning about population aging, which it sees as a public finance problem, with increased spending on pensions and health care.
