Additional route (IC) 8 in Avelar, Ancien municipality, where the accident occurred on Thursday, has been reopened in both directions, a National Republican Guard (GNR) source said.
According to the source, traffic was resumed at 16:45 in both directions.
The road was closed this afternoon due to a collision between two heavy vehicles.
According to a source from the Leiria region’s sub-regional emergency and civil protection department, one of the vehicles overturned, blocking traffic in both directions.
The accident, reported to authorities at 2:21 p.m., occurred at kilometer 69.8, near Avelar, resulting in minor injuries taken to hospital and two people treated on the spot.
A GNR source clarified that “one of the trucks crossed the road” at the Avelar junction.
