This Thursday, the Council of Ministers approved a resolution establishing September 25 as the National Day for Sustainable Development, recommended by Parliament two years ago.
The statement, released after Thursday’s government meeting, said the date chosen coincides with the date the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The government intends for this initiative to contribute “in an appropriate way to disseminate information, advance knowledge and educate all social actors on conscious behavior change with transformative potential for a sustainable future.”
On January 15, 2021, the Assembly of the Republic approved the final text of the Commission on Environment, Energy and Spatial Planning, based on the draft resolutions of CDS-PP, Chega and unregistered MP Joacín Qatar Moreira, who recommended to the government “to establish September 25 as the National Day of Sustainable Development”.
The proposal was presented to the Assembly of the Republic in April 2020 by the consumer association DECO, who proposed on September 25, as the 17 sustainable development goals to be adopted by all countries of the world by 2030 were presented on that day.
