At least 11 people died this Sunday as a result of a landslide that occurred during a rally in memory of the dead in the district of Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, the region’s governor said on public radio CRTV.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), early in the night in the Damas area on the outskirts of Yaoundé, police removed four bodies covered with white sheets. At the scene, an AFP journalist reports, there were hundreds of residents in panic this Sunday night, who were looking for family and friends, while rescue teams tried to reach the crash site.
Several families were set up in a tent in a vacant lot at the top of the hill as the ground parted, several residents told AFP.
