Two earthquakes were felt this Monday on the island of Terceira in the Azores, the Center for Seismic Volcanic Information and Observation of the Azores (CIVISA) said.
According to CIVISA, at 9:40 am (10:40 am in Lisbon), an earthquake measuring 2.1 on the Richter scale was recorded with an epicenter five kilometers from Santa Barbara.
This earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III/IV on the modified Mercali scale in the parish of Santa Barbara and with intensity III in the parish of São Bartolomeu and also in the municipality of Angra do Heroismo.
Earlier, at 5:19 am, a shock of magnitude 1.9 on the Richter scale was recorded, felt in the parish of Terra Cha, Angra do Heroismo, with a maximum intensity of III on the modified Mercali scale.
At intensity IV, which is considered “moderate”, “parked cars shake”, “windows, doors and dishes shake” and “glasses and dishes rattle or ring”, with creaking walls or wooden structures, describes the Instituto do Mar and Atmosphere (IPMA). ) on the website.
According to the IPMA, at intensity III, considered weak, the impact “is felt inside the house” and “hanging objects sway”, feeling “a vibration similar to that caused by the passage of heavy vehicles.”
