On Monday, the economy minister said that Portugal will have cheaper and more competitive energy in the medium term, noting that 60% of the country’s energy consumption already comes from “highly competitive” renewable sources.
“They are [as energias renováveis] high competitiveness, as this energy crisis in Europe shows. And therefore, in the medium term, we will have cheaper and more competitive energy,” said António Costa Silva at the opening of Nokia’s new 5G and 6G R&D center in Alfragida.
The minister stressed that Nokia is very welcome in Portugal, as well as its investment, because the company is “consistent” with the national interest regarding the transition to energy.
The official said Nokia employs 2,800 people in Portugal, of which 2,500 are highly skilled workers, and that the new center will create 100 jobs over the next two years.
Costa Silva also said that Portugal is the third country in the European Union that produces the most engineers, highlighting the security of Portugal, which attracts investors.
