The parliamentary leader of the PS this Wednesday presented data on the evolution of the Portuguese economy, accused the PSD that all forecasts did not come true, and noted that Luis Montenegro had already conceded defeat in the next European elections.
These positions were handed over to Eurico Brilliante Diaz after data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) was released indicating that gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.5% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year and 1.6% over the previous quarter.
Also, according to the INE Rapid Assessment, the annual rate of change of the consumer price index (CPI) fell to 4.0% in May, down 1.7 percentage points from April.
In front of reporters, the president of the PS parliamentary group said that “the life of the Portuguese is improving”, announced a temporary increase in already paid salaries of civil servants and a temporary increase in pensions from July, and also said that the country managed to reverse the inflationary cycle by highlighting measures such as zero VAT on a basket of foodstuffs that are deemed necessary.
Referring to the work of the PSD and other political opposition forces, Eurico Brillante Díaz stated that “the Portuguese see the difference between deeds and deeds and concrete actions of the government that take place in their lives.”
“We also had a symptom of this in a political context. Dr. Luis Montenegro has already admitted that he lost the European elections. He understands that the life of the Portuguese is improving,” the leader of the socialist group said, before also referring to the political speech of his fellow social democrat Joaquim Miranda Sarmento.
“Seeing how my colleague Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, an economist, professor at the University of Lisbon at ISEG, recently held a press conference at which he did not mention the figures for the Portuguese economy, everything immediately speaks of the state of our opposition. the representative of the main opposition bench, the economist, today did not say – just as the leader of the PDP / PSD did not say – not a word about the behavior of the Portuguese economy, about the specific life of the Portuguese, about unemployment or economic growth, he said zero, he pointed out.
