Stop suggesting that the government recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism

This Monday, Chega submitted to the Assembly of the Republic a draft resolution in which he recommends that the government “recognize Russia as a state sponsor of international terrorism” after the European Parliament approved a resolution on the same issue.

The party led by André Ventura cites that “on February 24 of this year, the Russian Federation launched an illegal and brutal invasion of the territory of Ukraine” and that “Russian forces and paramilitary groups controlled by Moscow have left a trail of destruction and barbarism that is clearly and absolutely violated The Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, which form the basis of the so-called international humanitarian law and are aimed at limiting the consequences of armed conflicts.

“Indiscriminate city bombing, arbitrary arrests, summary executions, ethnic cleansing, sexual violence, kidnappings, forced deportation of children or the use of thermobaric weapons are some of the terror tactics used by Russia against defenseless civilians,” he said. stress. .

Noting that “the means used by the Russians in this conflict also testify to their complete lack of commitment to respecting international treaties,” Chega speaks of “carnage” and “the clear goal of the Moscow forces is to indiscriminately destroy civilians in Ukraine.”

“But if all this were not already unbearable, then the Russian Federation began to use energy as a weapon and an instrument of blackmail, limiting or even blocking access to gas for European countries dependent on it, while simultaneously pursuing a policy of “energy terrorism” with the destruction or damage of Ukrainian infrastructures for the production or distribution of energy, the purpose of which is to doom millions of civilians to a harsh winter, without proper heating capabilities, ”the deputies note.

For Chega, “there is no doubt” that the Russian regime is “seeking the physical and deliberate destruction of civilian infrastructure and massacres of civilians in Ukraine, inevitably bringing to mind heinous crimes such as the Holodomor.”

The European Parliament approved on Wednesday a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, presented by a political group of European conservatives and reformists (center right).

The resolution also asks the Council of the EU to designate the Russian paramilitary Wagner Group, the 141st Special Motorized Regiment, also known as the Kadyrovites, as well as other militias, militias and Kremlin-funded forces on the list of terrorist organizations (Presidents of Russia) . ).

Chega believes that “the time has come for Portugal, as a member of the European Union and a member state of the Council of Europe, to take a consistent position on this issue” and recommends that the government “recognize the so-called ‘Wagner Group’, the so-called Kadyrov regiment (from Ramzan Kadyrov , President of the Chechen Republic), the People’s Militia of Donbass, the People’s Militia of Luhansk or the militia known as the United Armed Forces of Novorossiya, consisting of both” and “any other militias or paramilitary organizations supported by the Russian state that commit acts of aggression against independent states in name of Russia’s interests.
