Costa received by the President of Angola on Monday after arriving in Luanda

Prime Minister António Costa will be received by Angolan President Joao Lourenço on Monday morning, shortly after arriving in Luanda, a meeting that will be the first stop of his two-day official visit to Angola.

According to the preliminary program, António Costa is due to arrive at 11:00 (the same time as in Lisbon) at the Presidential Palace, where he will be greeted by the head of the Angolan state, João Lourenço.

After military honors, the national anthems of the two countries and a review of the troops, António Costa and João Lourenço meet in private, followed by the “opening ceremony of official negotiations” between the leaders of Portugal and Angola.

Late in the morning, the Angolan head of state and the Portuguese prime minister hold a ceremony to sign legal documents and make press statements.

In an interview with the Lusa agency and the Expresso newspaper, the Angolan president dwelled on one of the agreements that will be signed in Luanda during António Costa’s visit and which provide for an increase in the funding line from 1.5 billion to 2 billion euros. The agreement, which was concluded in early April during the visit of the Minister of Finance of Portugal, Fernando Medina.

This permanent line of funding guarantees the company’s payout in the event of a default by the Angolan state and allows funding for certain projects in Angola.

According to João Lourenço, the export credit “incentivizes Portuguese companies to travel to Angola, as they feel more comfortable and with the assurance that what they come to Angola for is covered by this loan.”

As early as the first of two days of his official visit to Angola, after a lunch offered by the Angolan head of state, the Portuguese Prime Minister visits the “Casais de Angola” at the industrial pole of Viana and the facilities of ACAIL.

The last item on the program of the first day is a reception hosted by the Prime Minister for Portuguese businessmen in Angola at the Epic Sana Hotel in Luanda at 18:30.

On the last day in Luanda, António Costa visits the Angolan headquarters of the CGD, the fortress of São Francisco do Penedo, and the Luanda Portuguese School.

In the afternoon, the Prime Minister travels to Johannesburg, where on Wednesday he will join the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in celebrating Portugal Day with the Portuguese community in South Africa.
