Five men and three women were detained by the GNR on suspicion of stealing olives in the municipality of Beja, seizing 210 kg of the fruit, security forces said on Monday.
The PPR Territorial Command in Beja said in a statement that eight suspects, aged between 16 and 40, were arrested at the scene of the crime on Thursday by soldiers from the Beja and Baleizao territorial posts.
“As part of the complaint, the military guards went to the site, where they found that eight suspects were picking olives without the permission of the owner,” the statement said.
According to the GNR, 210 kg of olives were seized following police action.
According to this security service, the suspects became defendants and the facts were sent to the Judicial Court of Beja.
