BE wants to hear from Fernando Medina and the Secretary of State about savings certificates

This Monday, BE called on Minister Fernando Medina and the Minister of Finance for an urgent parliamentary hearing on the suspension of the Series E savings certificates and the sale of a new one with lower interest rates.

Blockers cite data from the Bank of Portugal to indicate that Portugal is “the second country in Europe with the lowest interest rates on bank deposits, far from the 2.77% already offered by France” and that interest rates on new term deposits were at 0.9% in Portugal.

“That’s why we have a bank that makes ten million euros a day, that charges interest on people who pay mortgages, with floating interest rates rising from month to month, but that doesn’t want to reward the same people’s savings,” criticizes BE, believing that it is these data that help explain the flight of bank deposits.
