Former Secretary of State for Infrastructure Hugo Mendez will be heard this Wednesday before the TAP Inquiry Committee to clarify the €500,000 compensation paid to former company administrator Alexandra Reis.
Hugo Méndez stepped down on January 4, along with then Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Pedro Nuno Santos, following the controversial departure of Alexandra Reis from TAP in February 2022.
At the time of leaving the government, the minister and secretary of state said they had no memory of the disputed compensation, but on January 20, in a statement, they said they found a message in which they do not remember in which political agreement was given to this value.
Hearings before the parliamentary commission of inquiry, which began on March 29, considered the intervention of the former secretary of state in other contentious issues, for example, in the case of replacing the presidential flight with a political one. convenience.
Urmier-Widener emailed Hugo Méndez asking for his opinion on a request he received from a travel agency, to which the then ruler replied that it was important to keep Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s political support, given that he was the government’s “major ally” , but which can become “the worst nightmare.”
At the former executive president’s hearing before the commission of inquiry on April 4, it also became known that Hugo Mendez would have ordered the manager not to talk to any other ministry than the ministry of infrastructure.
