At the end of June, the European Commission will present its legislative proposal to create a legal framework that will enable the implementation of the digital euro, a virtual form of the single currency, the institution announced this Thursday, guaranteeing “balanced” regulation.
“Over the past year and a half, we have collaborated intensively with Member States and stakeholders, as well as with the European Central Bank. [BCE] and we are now in the final stages of preparing a proposal for regulation that will enable the creation of a digital euro in the future,” said European Commissioner for Economics Paolo Gentiloni.
Speaking at a press conference after a meeting of eurozone finance ministers in Luxembourg, Paolo Gentiloni noted that the goal is to “present this proposal at the end of this month”, so he declined to “go into details now.”
