The President of the Republic today adopted a decree-law that changes the structure of the Instituto do Turismo de Portugal, “despite the costs”, which, in his opinion, are the result of “cyclical organic changes in such a sensitive area”.
The head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced the introduction of this government diploma through a note on the official website of the President of the Republic on the Internet.
“Despite the costs of cyclical organic changes in an area so sensitive to the coherence of the desired strategic coordination and the external image of Portugal, given that even in this case the delegates of the Instituto do Turismo de Portugal, IP, remain functionally dependent on the ambassador or head of mission, thereby minimally Guaranteeing the unity of economic diplomacy, the President of the Republic promulgated a letter of government that complies with the third amendment to the Instituto do Turismo de Portugal, IP.
The Decree-Law, which entered into force today, was approved by the Council of Ministers on 25 May.
In the communique of this meeting, the government only mentions that this decree-law “changes the structure of the Instituto do Turismo de Portugal, IP, in order to guarantee an internal organization more adequate to the current tasks and needs of the sector.” without further details.
The information available at that time on the Turismo de Portugal portal indicated that, in terms of organization, it was structured in areas and departments in three areas of activity: planning, business and support.
Turismo de Portugal is the National Tourist Authority responsible for the promotion, expansion and sustainability of tourism activities and brings together in one person all the institutional competencies related to tourism promotion, from supply to demand, according to its portal.
