British tabloid Daily Mail has hired Boris Johnson as editor.

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson was hired this Friday as editor of the conservative tabloid Daily Mail, but if his political future may be uncertain, his media career seems secure after his departure from the British Parliament.

A week after announcing his resignation as an MP, following a parliamentary report finding him guilty of lying to parliament as well as attacking democracy, the Daily Mail wrote on its front page this Friday that it had hired a mysterious “new scientist” . columnist”, whose words were expected “in Westminster and all over the world”.

If Boris Johnson’s political future may seem uncertain, his media career is assured as the former prime minister was hired this Friday as editor of the British tabloid Daily Mail, in itself sparking controversy about a return to journalism, France Press reported.

At the end of the day, the Daily Mail confirmed what seemed obvious: “I was talking about Boris Johnson, who, starting this week, will publish an editorial every Saturday in his columns.”

In a video published on the newspaper’s website, Boris Johnson promises: “I will say exactly what I think” and talk about politics “as little as possible.”

The new activity will give him more media exposure as he has waged open war against his successor Rishi Sunak and has not ruled out a comeback.

In addition, it will also be a convenient source of income for Boris Johnson, who turns 59 on Monday, is expecting his eighth child and has just bought a mansion near Oxford.

The British press reports that Boris will earn several hundred thousand euros a year, not counting the amount, to which are added the millions he has earned from the conferences he has held since leaving Downing Street.

However, his appointment has already been criticized by the commission in charge of overseeing the private appointments of the elected to avoid a conflict of interest, and the commission said it was “not notified in time” of its decision, according to AFP News.

Boris Johnson’s spokesman said he was “in touch” with the commission, which cannot impose sanctions, and that “normal procedures” were followed.

Before entering politics as mayor of London and in various governments, Boris Johnson started out as a trainee journalist at The Times through family connections.

In 1989 he became a Brussels correspondent for the Daily Telegraph, where he criticized European institutions, and later became a political commentator in London for the conservative daily newspaper and magazine The Spectator.
