At least 41 people have died in a “terrorist attack” on a school in western Uganda, a police spokesman for the East African country said Saturday.
Members of the Alliance of Democratic Forces (ADF) attacked the Lubirira High School in Mpondwe on Friday, burning down a dormitory and stealing groceries, Reuters reported, citing local authorities.
Mpondwe Mayor Selewest Mapose, quoted by the Associated Press (AP), said the bodies of 38 students, a security guard and two people who were shot at the entrance to the school were found.
“So far, 41 bodies have been found and taken from a school to a hospital in Bwere, near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRCongo). Also rescued eight victims who are in critical condition,” the spokesman said. , Fred Enanga.
According to this news agency, there are still records of abducted victims. After committing the crimes, the attackers fled towards the Virunga National Park in the Congo.
