The Minister of Infrastructure said this Wednesday that the government is finalizing the evaluation of proposals submitted by ANA to improve operations at the Lisbon airport and will ensure that decisions are taken to eliminate the difficulties in the summer.
João Galamba spoke at a hearing before the Commission for Economy, Public Works, Planning and Housing in Parliament, which is taking place this morning and where he is being heard on the general policy of the ministry and other current affairs.
“We know there are problems that need to be addressed and we are committed to finding solutions. Given the beginning of the summer season, ANAC [Autoridade Nacional da Aviação Civil] is working with “stakeholders” to ensure every possible action is taken to ensure that Humberto Delgado Airport’s performance is improved in terms of air traffic and traffic as well as passengers,” he said.
The official also said that the executive branch is “completing the evaluation of proposals” submitted by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, following notification of the submission of an investment plan for operational improvements in Lisbon.
“This is a difficult task. We know that Humberto Delgado Airport is operating at the limit of its capacity. And also for this reason, any intervention must be carefully considered to minimize impacts and operational problems,” he stressed.
He also assured that the government is working to ensure “ANA fulfills its investment obligations as soon as possible” so that Humberto Delgado Airport can respond to demand until a future solution for the airport is determined.
