Celebrity chef John Mountain has “banned” vegans from his restaurant in Australia after receiving a review criticizing the lack of plant-based options on the menu.
In a post on the FYRE restaurant’s Facebook page on Tuesday, chef John Mountain wrote that he would no longer serve vegan customers “for mental health reasons.”
“Unfortunately, all vegans are currently banned from FYRE (for mental health reasons). We appreciate your understanding,” John Mountain wrote, adding the hashtags #vegan, #no, #pleasegoelsewhere and #nomorevegans.
Chef FYRE’s decision follows negative feedback from a customer who criticized the fact that the restaurant no longer has vegan options and that a single vegetable dish costs A$32 (around €29.30).
“I think it’s very important these days for restaurants to be open to all comers, and the lack of plant-based dishes in them shows the chef’s shortcomings,” said a woman who criticized the restaurant’s menu. In response to the publication, FYRE thanked for the negative review and wished not to see him again.
“How childish. You and all your vegan friends can go eat elsewhere,” the chef added.
In an interview given 7Newsthe chef said his customers should already know what they can expect from him: “I wrote and sold a book called The Pig, which had pork recipes. My job is to make food taste as good as possible, and I can.” always meet the dietary needs of everyone.”
On social media, the ban on vegans at FYRE sparked controversy among customers, with some praising the decision and others condemning it.
