Only three planes managed to land on Madeira this afternoon.

This Sunday afternoon, only three planes managed to land at Madeira airport, driven by strong winds registered on the island, which ANA has already caused about 40 flights to be cancelled.

Three TuiFly flights from Hannover (16:45), Munich (17:01) and Düsseldorf (18:46) landed on the official website of ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal from 16:45 to 18:46.

Then three planes managed to fly to the same cities in Germany from 18:00 to 19:49.

ANA also indicates that more than 20 landings of various companies flying to Madeira from different destinations and the corresponding scheduled take-offs have been cancelled.

Two Ryanair flights, one British Airways and one TuiFly were diverted to other airports.

The weather situation affects thousands of passengers.

This Sunday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a statement warning of an “episode of hot and dry weather in the archipelago” of Madeira, adding that maximum temperatures are expected on the south coast, which could reach 35 degrees Celsius. .

“Warm weather warnings will be in effect from Sunday the 25th with orange highs on the 26th and 27th. [segunda e terça-feira]this episode is expected to continue until at least Thursday the 29th,” the IPMA communiqué said.

Also, according to IPMA, this “period will also be marked by increased winds, especially in high altitude areas” and very low relative humidity values, which can increase the risk of fire.

“In addition, during the same period, there may be a transfer of dust in suspension to the Madeira archipelago due to a constant flow from the east,” the note adds.
