SDP President Luis Montenegro on Wednesday night accused the Socialists of being “friends of the private health industry” for providing the sector with “unattainable profits” under the governments they lead.
“Socialists complain a lot, they complain a lot, but the hard truth is that when socialists manage private health, it enriches, when socialists manage private health, it brings fruits that are unattainable in a moment of normality, that is, the friends of the private health industry are socialists. It has to be said because they say one thing and do another,” the social democratic leader said at a dinner in Monsano, which brought together about 600 militants from the Viana do Castelo area.
Montenegro responded to statements by the Minister of Health on Wednesday in parliament, which he called “fantastic”.
“Faced with the chaos that reigns in the sector, he basically said the following: this is not desirable, but if necessary, we will turn to the private sector to provide an answer that SNS cannot give. It took so many years. recognize what we have been saying for years,” he asked.
As for SDP President Manuel Pizarro, he not only “embarrassedly” acknowledged the use of the private sector to overcome the lack of response from the National Health Service (SNS), but he did it “in the worst possible way.” “.
“He said: I don’t want, I don’t even like this sector, but if I really have problems, I will run and ask the private sector for help. What the minister does is invite the private sector of the sector to take whatever price he wants, because it shows that in moments of distress he throws himself into his arms. existed in Portugal,” he fired.
Montenegro said that the SDP will not give “the government a moment’s rest, demanding from it the adoption of structural and opportunistic measures”, including in the field of health, which it considers a case of “truly scandalous and full of chaos.”
“Thousands of Portuguese people who were promised a family doctor but do not have one, about 1.5 million people who want a consultation but do not have one, want an operation and wait for years, stand in lines, Emergencies are closed and the minister says that things are getting better, and administrations or heads of clinical institutions are resigning for lack of funds, because they feel powerless to fix the situation,” he said.
For a social democratic leader, the only reason the country does not have a “better healthcare system” is because ideology has taken precedence over the needs of citizens, the ideological complex of PS, PKP and BE has directly damaged the lives of citizens. citizens.”
“Until October, three million three hundred thousand Portuguese had to pay for health insurance in order to be able to respond. They spent over one billion euros on this, on top of all the taxes they pay, backing up the money that was made on SNS. For every three million three hundred thousand Portuguese, there are about one million two hundred thousand ADSE beneficiaries. Only here we are talking about half of the population of Portugal, which must pay extra to have a minimum answer,” he said.
