One of the young men who was in the car carrying 17-year-old Nahel when he was shot by police stepped forward and said there were many lies on the Internet about what happened to his friend.
“I’m going to tell you a story from A to Z. There are a lot of lies being circulated,” the young man said in a video that was later quoted by the publication. BFMTV.
The witness said that on Tuesday morning he arranged with Nael and another friend to walk around Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris. At some point, they realized that the police were following them.
According to this young man, the car was immediately stopped as soon as the order was received. The first policeman stopped Nahel and asked him to open the window.
“He told him: turn off the engine or I will shoot you,” he stressed.
From now on, the tension will increase. “The second policeman, who was at the level of the windshield, fired. As a result, his foot hit the gas pedal. I saw him die, he was shaking. We crashed into a barrier,” he said.
In shock, the young man fled, because he was afraid that he would face the same outcome as Nahel. Another minor, who was in the car, was detained and taken into custody.
Nahel’s death caused a wave of anger and violent protests in France. There are already records of thousands of arrests during the riots.
