The owner of Twitter decided to extend the restrictions imposed on Saturday to the reading of publications by every user, noting this Sunday it was “ironic” that the “tweet” with this advertisement became the most read in history.
On Saturday, businessman Elon Musk announced that the social networking site Twitter has temporarily imposed daily limits on the number of posts a user can read, saying it avoids “extreme levels of data collection and system manipulation.”
In a “tweet” posted on Saturday, which is by far the most read on the social network, the owner of Twitter said that “verified accounts” can read up to “6000 posts per day” and “unverified accounts” can read 600 , and in the case of “new unverified accounts” it will be 300 messages.
In the statement, the businessman noted that these limits could be raised “soon” to 8000, 800 and 400, respectively.
Within hours, Elon Musk made changes, increasing the limits to 10,000 messages for verified accounts, 1,000 for unverified accounts, and 500 for new unverified accounts.
Despite everything, the initial announcement of restrictions on reading posts on Twitter caused a “buzz” on the social network, with many users reporting problems accessing content.
The first post by the owner of Twitter about the introduction of limits from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning gained more than 455 million views.
“Another ironic exercise: this post has hit a view record!” said the businessman, who sarcastically commented in another post on how users reach reading limits by “reading over the limits” and complaining about the measure.
According to Downdetector’s monitoring page, the social media access problems peaked after the initial announcement, with around 7,000 complaints, but the situation returned to normal during the day, and they did not exceed 1,000 complaints this Sunday morning.
In addition, Musk shared a message from the parody account explaining why he put in place these restrictions: “We’re all addicted to Twitter and we need to get out.”
A Twitter owner also made a comment this Sunday to suggest the idea: “You wake up from a deep trance, you step away from your phone to see your friends and family.”
