A two-euro coin dedicated to World Youth Day (WYD) will go into circulation. The Bank of Portugal (BdP) announced that its issuance will begin on July 19.
The currency will have a limit of two million thirty thousand euros, according to a notice published this Wednesday in Diário da República.
On the regular obverse (popularly known as tails), the coin shows the two euro denomination and the usual design with the outlines of the European Union (EU).
The national face (or crown) features a pilgrimage cross and various figures showing the different ethnic origins of the WYD; two hands wrapping drawings and seeking to reflect the welcome of the Pope and the universality of the event; subtitles with “World Youth Day 2023”, “Portugal”, “Casa da Moeda” and author’s name; around 12 EU stars design.
In addition to the WYD commemorative coin, BdP has announced the issuance of a “Peace Coin”, which will start on November 15 and will be issued in a circulation of one million thirty thousand euros.
The word “Peace” is visible on the crown of the coin in 16 official languages of 20 Eurozone countries.
