This Friday, Chega defended that the emergency local housing contribution is “unfair” and “deeply unconstitutional” and asked the President of the Republic not to accept it without sending it to the Constitutional Court (CC).
Speaking to reporters in the Assembly of the Republic, President Chegi said that “the new contribution to local housing, which has been so contested, is in the end even more difficult than it seems” and “will not apply to the entire building that has local accommodation, only to isolated factions.”
“The government punishes the weakest and protects the large economic groups that have local housing. Since they will pay a lot since they have entire buildings dedicated to local residence, the government releases them, but makes those with autonomous factions pay for local housing. “, he pointed out.
André Ventura defended that “this is not only unfair, but profoundly unconstitutional” and argued that it would “destroy the local hospitality industry” and “endanger the livelihoods of so many families”.
The Chega leader also stated that if the measure goes into effect, “it will further fuel the anger, rage and frustration of those with small and medium local accommodation businesses.”
Ventura announced his intention to “request a preventive review of this diploma” from the NC, indicating that he would contact the SDP and the Liberal Initiative to this end, since Chega’s board consists of 12 deputies.
“If this is not possible, I would like to appeal to the President of the Republic with a request not to miss this diploma without prior consideration by the Constitutional Court. It is necessary that the Court consider this provision, which cannot be constitutional and is deeply unfair and unequal,” he said.
The constitution only allows deputies to demand preventive review of organic laws, a requirement that must be signed by one-fifth of the deputies (46).
An extraordinary contribution regarding apartments and living quarters integrated into a self-contained part of the building in local housing was approved by specialty on Thursday with a vote for PS and BE, abstaining from PCP and a vote against PSD, Chega and the Liberal Initiative.
This contribution excludes residential properties that are not autonomous factions or parts or divisions that can be used independently, as well as local housing that functions as one’s own permanent residence, provided that the operation does not exceed 120 days per year.
