“I spend little time on political analysis”: Costa refuses to comment on the dismissal of the secretary of defense

Prime Minister António Costa declined to comment this Saturday on the latest resignation of the government, Defense Minister Marco Capitao Ferreira, and said he devotes little time to political analysis.

António Costa was asked about the dismissal of the Secretary of State and called for “justice has been done.”

Asked if the government was showing “some wear and tear”, the chief executive replied: “You know that I do little political analysis and do what I am responsible for, which is management. Today we will focus on what is of great importance in the life of the Portuguese. To be honest, what I feel about people is a completely different matter,” said António Costa.

The chief executive stressed that he walks the street and usually talks to the Portuguese, who express concerns “that have nothing to do with these issues”, listing topics such as fighting inflation, increasing incomes, problems in the National Service (SNS) and “a huge transformation of the Portuguese economy”.

“That’s what I think is the main issue that we need to focus on, because the function of government is to govern with people in mind,” he said.

The prime minister also added that it is “important to maintain policy stability” in order to maintain the “virtuous cycle” that he believes continues in the Portuguese economy.

António Costa is in Sintra, at Montserrat Palace, for an informal meeting of the Council of Ministers, which is held annually.
