Adam Sandler wishes team good luck and says Ronaldo is cool

Actor Adam Sandler, who was praised for his role as a basketball scout in the movie Hustle, wished the Portuguese football team good luck and praised Cristiano Ronaldo during an event in Los Angeles that included Lusa.

“Ronaldo is fucking cool [‘cool as hell’]”, – said Adam Sandler, a self-confessed basketball fan. “I don’t know football as well as I would like,” he admitted, but said that he follows the men’s World Cup matches. “I watch football now, I saw today game.”

“I know the US is doing well and that’s great. I felt sad for Mexico,” he continued. “Next round – 1/8 finals? Good luck Portugal.”

In Hustle: The Great Leap Forward, Adam Sandler’s scout Stanley Sugarman repeatedly expresses disdain for the sport. Sandler explained to Lusa why he included the joke.

“The idea of the film is that he travels around Europe and tries to attract good athletes, and football always leads them astray,” said the actor. “I don’t think Stanley Sugarman doesn’t know what an amazing sport it is and how great the players are, it’s just that he’s losing to this other sport.”

Speaking about the Netflix film, which stars Spanish basketball player Juancho Hernángomez of the Toronto Raptors, Adam Sandler said that he has always liked films about sports.

Hustle was a good idea for a movie, the scout found a player with magic,” he described. “We knew it would be nice to add some comedic moments, but we wanted to make a sports drama like what Rocky was to us when we were growing up,” he said, referring to the Sylvester Stallone saga. .

“When I went to the movies to see Rocky, it was two years in a row that I was talking about the movie. This film crushed us,” he recalled. “There will never be an opportunity to do another Rocky, but this one had the opportunity to be a good underdog story in basketball.”

The first draft of the script was sent to him by Joe Roth and basketball player LeBron James, who co-founded SpringHill Entertainment and jointly owned the rights with Roth/Kirschenbaum Films.

“We talked to every scout we met, NBA coaches and players, people all over the world about what it means to be in the NBA, how important it is to them,” Sandler described.

After a limited theatrical run, the Netflix original, directed by Jeremiah Zagar and also starring Queen Latifah, is seen as a potential contender for an Oscar nomination, especially in the Best Actor category for Adam Sandler.

The Hollywood veteran was grateful to critics for his performance, and also praised Brendan Fraser, another potential candidate for the role in the film “The Whale” directed by Darren Aronofsky.

The actors starred in the wacky comedy Brainless in 1994 and are now in the race for Oscars for two dramas.

“Brendan is so smart and deep and kind. We’ve been talking a lot lately,” Sandler said. “The movie is so good. It has always been excellent, as deep as it gets.”
