Fertagus rail, which connects Setúbal and Lisbon, will face “major unrest” on Friday due to a strike by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) workers, with only 25% of services running, the company announced on Thursday.
The carrier’s source told Lusa that minimum services are expected on Friday: 39 connections, 18 southbound and 21 northbound, representing 25% of the offer.

Fertagus and CP warned on Wednesday of treatment violations due to the strike of IP workers who have minimum services set by the arbitration court.
According to the regulation defining the minimum services published by the Economic and Social Council (CES), they have been established for CP trains, namely intercity (Alfa Pendular and Intercidades), regional, city trains in Lisbon, Porto and from Coimbra. .
In addition, given that IP operates the rail and road networks, the arbitral tribunal ruled that “safety and traffic conditions must be guaranteed in the tunnels of Marao, Grilo and Benfica”, as well as some means of communication, among other things.
In a note on its website, CP warned that “due to the strike called by union organizations representing IP (Rail Infrastructure Manager) workers, major disruption to national train traffic is expected on Friday-Friday, with possible impact on the days before and after a shutdown period.
IP workers planned a 24-hour strike on Friday to protest the “lack of response” to their demands, Abilio Carvalho of the National Union of Railway Workers (SNTSF) told Lusa on June 23.
According to the trade union leader, the decision to continue the struggle will be made later, “if there is no answer to the claims.”
The leader of the union pointed out that “expectations were created” according to which “the evaluation of the workers will come later”, which did not materialize.
The unions presented a general wage counteroffer demanding a minimum temporary increase of 37 euros, which they announced on 12 June.
