Portugal has two months to correct the shortcomings identified by the European Commission in the residence and identity cards issued to EU citizens and their family members.
These are shortcomings related to the format of the cards in question, which do not comply with the provisions of the regulation that entered into force in August 2021.
With the notification of compliance sent, Portugal has two months to respond satisfactorily to the European Commission, proceeding on pain of infringement to the second stage, issuing a reasoned opinion.
The paperwork rules are aimed at facilitating free movement within the European Union, strengthening security standards and samples of identity cards and residence permits.
